Flash Flood Emergencies Hit Same Texas Hill Country Corridor Devastated One Year Ago
The NWS issued Flash Flood Emergencies for Kerr and Uvalde counties on July 16, 2026, after up to 20 inches of rain fell in 48 hours and the Guadalupe River at Comfort rose more than 30 feet overnight. The same corridor — including the Guadalupe River — was devastated by July 2025 floods that killed more than 100 people, including 27 at Camp Mystic. The recurrence raises pressing questions about early-warning infrastructure and floodplain management across the Hill Country's fast-responding karst watersheds.
