MI5 reprimanded for lying to courts and watchdog over neo-Nazi informant
The UK's intelligence watchdog IPCO formally reprimanded MI5 on July 16, 2026 for misleading both courts and the regulator about its relationship with a neo-Nazi informant called "agent X." Commissioner Brian Leveson's 211-page review found MI5's handling "fell far below" expected standards. Agent X, a foreign national who has since left the UK, attacked his girlfriend with a machete while exploiting his informant role.
