UK GDP edges up 0.1% in May as services mask industrial and construction declines

UK GDP rose 0.1% month-on-month in May 2026, rebounding from April's 0.1% contraction, per ONS figures published 16 July. Growth came solely from services, up 0.3%, while production fell 0.5% and construction dropped 0.8%. Scientific R&D surged 5.1%. Three-month growth eased to 0.7% from 0.8%. The services sector accounts for roughly 80% of UK output.
