Meta Pulls Instagram AI Feature Over Consent Concerns

Meta withdrew Muse Image, its advanced AI image-generation tool, from Instagram within days of launch on 11 July 2026. The feature let users tag public Instagram accounts to generate or alter images from others' posts. Users objected to having their public content used without explicit consent, despite Meta's intent to give account holders control over whether their content could be referenced. The company acknowledged it "missed the mark." Meta plans to expand AI features across WhatsApp, Facebook, and Messenger, suggesting these consent tensions will resurface.
