Ofcom Threatens Tech Giants With 10% Revenue Fines Over Scam Ads
UK regulator Ofcom is consulting on new powers to force Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, and ChatGPT to ban scam advertisers and prevent flagged bad actors from creating new accounts. Non-compliance could result in fines of up to 10% of global revenue once rules take effect in 2027. The move addresses a persistent enforcement gap: Meta promised to stop illegal financial ads in Britain but was running roughly 1,000 per week as of March 2026.
