Zimbabwe Replaces Direct Presidential Elections with Parliamentary Selection

President Emmerson Mnangagwa signed a constitutional amendment on July 7 that shifts how Zimbabwe's president is elected. Future presidents will be chosen by Parliament rather than voters in direct elections—a change that concentrates selection power within ZANU-PF, which has controlled the legislature since 1980.
