Treasury Announces Larger Long-End Buybacks Starting Sept. 9
On Aug. 19, 2026, the U.S. Treasury announced increased sizes for nominal long-end liquidity-support buybacks starting Sept. 9. That means it plans to buy back more of its own older long-term bonds to support market trading. I’m watching this because smoother trading at the long end can feed through to mortgages and business borrowing costs.
