National rejects hate speech law while PM endorses religious freedom pledge

Prime Minister Christopher Luxon wrote a foreword to the Statement on Religious Diversity affirming all religious communities' right to practise free from discrimination. Yet the National Party confirmed it does not support legislating against hate speech. The gap matters: religion remains unprotected under the Human Rights Act, six years after the Christchurch Royal Commission recommended it be added.
