Four Dead in Mexico City World Cup Crowd Crush

Three people died from asphyxiation when crowds surged in Mexico City on July 1 after Mexico defeated Ecuador in the knockout round. A fourth death was also reported. The deaths followed weeks of massive street celebrations tied to Mexico's tournament run, and occur despite city authorities attempting to restrict crowd gathering after earlier celebrations for Mexico's South Korea victory.
