Clifton Bridge's £7.5m refurbishment funded solely by £1 tolls
The Clifton Suspension Bridge Trust, a not-for-profit charity, paid about £7.5 million for the bridge refurbishment with no public funding. Upkeep and running costs come only from toll money. Motorised vehicles pay £1 to cross; pedestrians, cyclists and horse riders cross free. The bridge carries over 8,000 vehicles per day.
