South Africa's deputy police chief resigns with dishonourable discharge
South Africa's suspended deputy police chief Lt Gen Shadrack Sibiya resigned on 12 October 2026. His lawyer submitted the resignation letter during his disciplinary hearing. Police spokesperson Athlenda Mathe said his departure was regarded as a "dishonourable discharge." The leadership vacancy puts pressure on Pretoria to restore confidence in police command.
