UK Commits £16 Billion to Munitions and Drones, Reshaping Post-Ukraine War Readiness
The UK's Defence Investment Plan, unveiled 30 June, allocates £11 billion to replenish munitions and weapons stockpiles and £5 billion to drone capabilities—the largest single European drone investment to date. The munitions spending directly addresses gaps exposed during the Russia-Ukraine conflict, when sustained high-intensity combat revealed Western arsenals built for low-intensity operations inadequate. The drone commitment reflects warfare's structural shift since 2022. Both reflect NATO allies' recalibration of what readiness requires.
