Hitman Studio Pivots to Live-Service Fantasy RPG in Ambitious Genre Shift

IO Interactive announced in 2023 it is developing Project Fantasy, an online fantasy RPG and new IP built for long-term expansion—the Copenhagen studio's first entry into the genre. The studio remains best known for its Hitman trilogy and is also developing a James Bond title. Project Fantasy represents a meaningful expansion into a demanding live-service space where content velocity and infrastructure demands differ substantially from IO's traditional mission-based sandbox expertise.
