
AfD's Tobias Rausch elected Saxony-Anhalt speaker in post-WWII first
Tobias Rausch of the AfD was elected speaker of Saxony-Anhalt's parliament in eastern Germany on October 6, 2026. It is the first time a far-right party has held a parliament speaker post in Germany since World War Two. The AfD in Saxony-Anhalt is classified as "right-wing extremist" by domestic intelligence.
