BBC Radio 4 Long Wave goes silent after 90 years at Droitwich

Radio 4 Long Wave transmission ends 27 June 2026, concluding nearly nine decades of broadcasts from Droitwich in Worcestershire. The 198 kHz service, announced for closure in May 2023, served as the national broadcasting backbone in its era. FM, DAB, and streaming have displaced long wave's propagation advantages. Radio 4 remains available on FM, DAB, Freeview, and BBC Sounds. The Droitwich masts are now the subject of heritage listing campaigns.
