
Kenya's gender violence crisis fuels theatre activism
Kenya has some of the highest intimate partner violence rates in sub-Saharan Africa, but prosecution remains rare and survivor services are underfunded. Playwright Gathoni Kimuyu's *Free Me*—drawn from her own experience of abuse—channels that gap into performance. Produced through a formal company structure, the work positions survivor testimony as both artistic and activist intervention, a rare combination in Nairobi's theatre scene.
