Pocock pressures Albanese to ban AI training on Australian content
Independent Senator David Pocock has written to Prime Minister Anthony Albanese demanding legislation to prohibit tech companies from training AI models on Australian content without permission. The Attorney-General ruled out copyright exemptions for AI training in October 2025, but Pocock wants explicit statutory prohibition. Australian law already requires consent, but enforcement remains unclear. The move applies crossbench pressure as the government deliberates through a Copyright and Artificial Intelligence Reference Group established in late October.
