Canada Agrees to Limited Low-Tariff Entry for Chinese EVs, Breaking With U.S.

Canada struck a deal with China that would allow a small number of Chinese electric vehicles into Canada at a reduced tariff, breaking with U.S. policy. Prime Minister Mark Carney reached the arrangement in January 2026. The limited scope leaves open how far Ottawa will diverge from Washington on trade screening.
