Train collision south of Bedford kills one, leaves nine in critical condition

Two East Midlands Railway passenger trains collided near Bedford on June 19, 2026, killing one person and injuring 89 others. Nine remain in critical condition as of June 20. The Corby-to-London and Nottingham-to-London services struck each other on the busy Midland Main Line south of Elstow. British Transport Police and the Rail Accident Investigation Branch are investigating how both trains occupied the same track section simultaneously.
