Whanganui's 15-bed emergency department hit 253% capacity

Whanganui Hospital's 15-bed emergency department reached 253% capacity on one day between 2 and 9 September, RNZ reported. Health NZ said that meant about 50 patients in the department at once. Group director Kath Fraser-Chapple said the occupancy placed significant pressure on services.
