At least one person died in 2026 after drivers drove into closed roadworks in England, Melanie Clarke, National Highways director of health, safety and wellbeing, said. National Highways warned drivers ignoring closures to skip queues are putting lives at risk. The agency recorded 814 incursions from January to July.
