Datasette Apps collapses frontend-backend separation into a single deployment

Datasette, the SQLite-to-API tool favored by journalists and researchers, now lets users build and host custom HTML interfaces directly within a Datasette instance. The feature wires those apps to Datasette's JSON API—the same interface external clients use—eliminating the need to run and maintain separate frontend infrastructure. The announcement came June 18, 2026. For small teams and solo developers, consolidating data serving and interface into one deployment materially reduces operational overhead.
