Yemen's Houthis seized a key Red Sea city in early September 2026 with Iranian weapons and direct guidance from Iran's Revolutionary Guards, sources said. The coastal advance brought the group closer to the Bab el-Mandeb Strait. Control of that chokepoint would expand Houthi leverage over Red Sea shipping beyond Yemen's civil war with the Saudi-backed government.
