Europe's First Temperate Rainforest Research Station Opens Long-Term Conservation Window

The Thousand Year Trust is building a £750,000 research station on Bodmin Moor—Europe's first permanent institutional base for temperate Atlantic rainforest monitoring. Atlantic rainforest once stretched across western Britain and continental Europe's Atlantic fringes but fragmented under centuries of grazing, felling, and drainage. A fixed facility enables multi-decadal data collection that grant cycles typically cannot sustain, aligning infrastructure with restoration timescales operating over centuries rather than years.
