
G7 Negotiates Tiered Access to U.S. Frontier AI as Foreign Policy Tool
The 52nd G7 Summit in Évian-les-Bains concluded June 17 with leaders discussing a framework to grant select allied nations controlled access to advanced U.S. AI models, including Anthropic's Fable 5. The proposal replaces blanket export suspension with geopolitical-alignment-based tiers. How trust criteria and monitoring obligations are operationalized will determine whether this becomes durable policy or diplomatic gesture. Frontier model access has now shifted explicitly from commercial to sovereign infrastructure.
