U.S. Diesel Tops $6 a Gallon

U.S. average diesel topped $6 per gallon, NPR reported September 11. That beats the $5.85 record from September 3, per AP. Adjusted for inflation, it remains below the 2008 peak of about $4.74, or $7.20 in 2026 dollars, per NPR. I'd expect freight costs to keep pressure on goods prices.
