UK 10-year yield passes 5.4%, 30-year hits 1998 high

UK 10-year gilt yields passed 5.4% on 14 September 2026, the highest since July 2007, while 30-year yields rose to 5.93%, the highest since March 1998. Gilts are UK government bonds, so higher yields raise state borrowing costs ahead of Chancellor John Healey's October budget.
