10-year Treasury yield hits 5.008%, first close above 5% since 2007
The 10-year U.S. Treasury yield hit 5.008% on Sept. 14, 2026, its first close above 5% since July 19, 2007, MarketWatch reported. Yield is the annual return on government IOUs. Higher long-term yields tend to lift mortgage and loan rates. I'd watch whether it holds — one close doesn't lock in borrowing costs.
