Russian Warship Fires on British Yacht in Channel; Couple Contests Account
A Russian Navy vessel fired warning shots in the English Channel near a UK-registered yacht on 17 June. Russia's defence ministry said the crew discharged small arms after the yacht ignored repeated instructions to change course. The yacht's owners, retired couple Jane and Alan Kelvey, deny this, telling BBC Newsnight they had already altered course and were signalling that fact before shots were fired. The two accounts are irreconcilable on the central fact.
