US Orders Import Ban on Canadian Alcohol, Dairy, and Motor Vehicles Effective September 29
President Trump signed executive orders banning Canadian alcohol, dairy, and motor vehicle imports starting September 29, 2026. Trump wrote that "Canada is discriminating in fact against the commerce of the United States." The ban replaces earlier 50% tariffs. Canada's matching retaliatory tariffs on $20 billion of US goods took effect September 8. No new trade talks are scheduled.
