Carney Frames Canadian Economic Decoupling from U.S. as Deliberate Policy

As retaliatory tariffs of 15, 25, and 50 per cent on U.S. goods took effect September 8, 2026, Prime Minister Carney said Canada would accelerate reducing its economic reliance on the United States.
