Chrome Begins Shutting Down Manifest V2 Extensions, Forcing Ad Blocker Migration
Chrome started deprecating Manifest V2 extensions in beta and dev channels in June 2024, setting a hard deadline for tens of millions of ad blocker and privacy tool users. The shift to Manifest V3 replaces dynamic request-blocking with static rules and enforced caps, narrowing what third-party extensions can do. Developers including AdGuard have released MV3-compatible blockers, but major players like uBlock Origin's creator maintain the new architecture materially reduces filtering capability. Migration to stable Chrome is imminent.
