Trump Administration Proposes Complete Elimination of Federal Funding for Senior Job Training Program
The FY 2027 budget request seeks to zero out all federal funding for the Senior Community Service Employment Program, which serves workers aged 55 and older at or below 125% of the federal poverty line. Congress has historically restored SCSEP funding when similar elimination proposals surfaced. The program's elimination would dissolve a discrete funding stream supplementing workforce services for older workers, who face longer unemployment spells and age discrimination that general workforce systems have not adequately addressed.
