Russian Shahed Drone Hits Chornobyl Fuel Storage; Nuclear Site Confirmed as Strategic Target
A Russian Shahed drone struck the reception building of a spent nuclear fuel facility 15 kilometres from Chornobyl on 7 June at 2am local time. The targeted structure was empty of fuel containers; no radiation spike was detected. The IAEA confirmed large quantities of nuclear material remain at the site. Ukraine's Zelenskyy called the attack deliberate and "extremely vile." Russia has not commented. The strike suggests Moscow is widening its risk envelope as Western summits prepare coordinated responses.
