Finland Gets Its First Passenger Rail Link to Sweden

A twice-daily train between Oulu, Finland and Haparanda, Sweden began service on 10 August 2026 — Finland's first passenger rail connection to Sweden and, by extension, to the rest of Europe's rail network. The 100-minute crossing opens a new border link. Passengers continuing south into Sweden must transfer trains at Haparanda, owing to a track-gauge difference between the two countries.
